Questions and Answers

Yes or No?

Yes? I have no idea what I am answering yes to, but sure!

Do you experience any aches or pains in your body?

Sometimes I get shoulder or neck aches from working at a desk or just tension from anxiety. But, that’s about it.

If you could create a new type of sport, what would it be or similar to?

I’m not much into sports, but I do like figure skating. I wonder if there was a way to maybe make a figure skating obstacle course and the skaters get graded based on how well they did and any tricks they did during the course.

What is a game that is generally received as bad but is your guilty pleasure?

I’m not sure if I have one that has been generally received as bad, but I do have one that is obscure that I love! Ghost Master. My mom bought it for my brother when he was a kid, and then I got it and I love that game so much! I was really happy when Steam reunited me with it! Basically it looks like The Sims and you scare people using ghosts!

Do you prefer writing with a pencil, pen, or keyboard?

I prefer a keyboard, but that’s because I am left handed and have terrible handwriting. Sometimes I don’t even know what I wrote! So, it’s better for me to type everything.

When was the last time something made you laugh so hard?

For Persona 5: Royal I had to name my phantom’s thieves group. I had named them last time when I played Persona 5, but decided to let my friend name them. He said “Hmmm”, but then did not reply back. It was getting late and I had to get up for work so that’s now the name for my Phantom Thieve’s. It’s appropriate as the main character does say “hmmm” a lot!

Do you play an instrument? If so what is it? If not, do you have an interest in learning how to play one?

I play piano and I am currently learning guitar! I really love rock and metal music so I decided to start electric guitar about 2 years ago.

Real Neat Blog Award!

Thank you to AK from Everything is bad for you for this Real Neat Blog award! AK has been reviewing the Cop Craft anime and you can find his latest review here!

The Questions

What’s your favorite game genre?

My favorite video game genre is RPGS especially JRPGS. I love the stories, the world that I can explore, and I do like when I am exploring the game with a party that I can interact with!

Is there a game genre you will never touch, no matter how much praise a game in that genre might receive? What puts you off about it?

I have not played a visual novel yet only because I would like to take part in the story instead of reading it. I do like to read, but I like an active part in video games where I can walk around, battle, and interact with the world around me. That’s not to say that I think visual novels are bad games, they just are not my type of game!

What’s your favorite controller?

I think my favorite controller is the Nintendo Switch JoyCons just because I like that they are versatile! They can be separated from the Switch and can be turned into a controller. They can also be used for multiplayer with friends where one person gets one JoyCon and the other person gets the other JoyCon. I just love how flexible the controller is!

What’s your least favorite controller?

Definitely the Wii controller! I tried it once after I got my Wii U so I could play Skyward Sword on the Wii U. Pointing the Wii remote at the screen to control it was not easy because the Wii remote had to be calibrated and you have to hold it straight so it can be picked up by the sensor but, it is really sensitive to movement which made the Wii remote difficult to control. Also, the nunchuck that came with it was broken because I bought them used at my local game store so it did not work and I could not make Link move. I ended up returning it and the game to my local game store and definitely do not want to try a Wii again!

What game would you like to see get a full-scale remake? Complete with any updated graphics, features, and game mechanics you’d like.

I would love to see an updated Ghost Master game. There was only one made in 2003 and I played it when I was a kid and played it again on Steam. I would love to see how the game would look updated and also what features they could add like maybe extra levels or more ghosts to collect!

How do you approach difficulty levels in games that offer that option? Do you like to jump into the deep end right away or take a more measured approach?

I tend to approach difficulty by choosing easy mode whenever I can. I just like to enjoy the story and want to relax.

How do you feel about the “casual/story mode” difficulty levels that are easier than the standard easy mode? Is there any situation in which you’d play a game in that mode?

I generally do not take this mode despite liking easy mode just because I like a bit of a challenge. Story mode usually would make the game a bit too easy. But, if the game was known to be notoriously difficult even on easy mode I would probably choose story mode.

My Questions

  1. What do you think about games that are designed to be difficult such as Dark Souls?
  2. What are your thoughts about lootboxes and the lootbox controversy in games?
  3. What do you think about games that have controversy leading up their release such as Borderlands 3? Would you still consider playing a game despite the controversies surrounding it?
  4. What game would you like to made into a TV show or movie like The Witcher?
  5. What game music would you like to be seen turned into a live concert such as the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra?
  6. What video game do you find the most comforting?
  7. what is your favorite part about the blogging community?

My Nominations

Thank you AK for the nomination!

Sunshine Blogger Award!

sunshine blogger award

Thank you to Megan Plays Games for nominating me for this award! She recently wrote a post on Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy which you can check out here! I am honored to receive another Sunshine Blogger Award and I am excited to answer the questions Megan picked!

1. Favourite female character in a video game, and why?

My favorite female character in a video game keeps changing! I would normally pick Aloy, but after playing through Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, I am going to pick Kassandra!

2. Game you loved but feel like no one else remembers, or is really underrated?

Ghost Master. It’s a puzzle game where you control ghosts. I had it as a kid and then got it again on Steam.

3. A game whose ending you felt was really disappointing? Why?

Yakuza 6. I loved the game, but I found the ending disappointing because it felt anticlimactic.  It was still a good ending to Kiryu’s story because he finally found peace.

4. Favourite indie game? Why?

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. I love its portrayal of mental illness and schizophrenia. I learned more about what it was like to have schizophrenia while playing the game. I believe that it is an important indie game to play because it tries to help people understand what it is like to have a mental illness.

5. If a friend who wasn’t a gamer asked you for a sort-of ‘first game’ recommendation, what would you suggest, and why? Let’s say they are open to all platforms and all genres.

I think Okami because it is such a calming game and it has a beautiful art style.

6. What game would you credit with sparking your love for gaming, and what about it was so special?

The Nancy Drew video games, specifically Message in a Haunted Mansion because that was my first game in the series. I loved solving mysteries and playing as a female protagonist!

7. Favourite, or most memorable video game villain?

Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2. I loved his personality and how he taunted you throughout the game. He was also a really funny villain!

8. What are your personal thoughts/opinions on video games as ‘live services’? Do you think this is the path video games will take in future?

Honestly, I am not sure. I haven’t really played any games with live service. I have played games with DLC that continued the story. I think that it could work for certain video games, but not ones with a definitive story that ends.

9. Most memorable side quest/NPC questline in a video game?

I love so many side quests in video games so this is a tough question! I love the side quests in Witcher 3 so I am going to pick “The Volunteer.” I just loved that I got to meet a really funny troll called Trollololo!

10. Some video games, due to their popularity or following, are considered above criticism. Is there a problematic element, or something that really bothered you in a title that has received universal acclaim? Give me your unpopular opinions!

The protagonists in Grand Theft Auto: V were problematic to me. But, I am not a fan of this series in general.

11. Let’s say you have to make a playlist of songs for a particular video game character – songs that represent who they are. Choose any character, and list at least 1 song that you feel would be on their playlist. Any musical genre, no limitations!

I feel Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey would love “Viscous” by Halestorm. The song is about overcoming obstacles and Kassandra grows as a character through the obstacles she faces throughout the game.

My Questions

  1. What is your favorite theme song from a video game?
  2. What is your favorite video game soundtrack
  3. What is your favorite video game genre?
  4. What is your favorite place in a video game?
  5. What is your least favorite place in a video game?
  6. What video game did you find visually stunning such as the landscapes or the art style?
  7. What video game food would you like to try
  8. What is your favorite video game series?
  9. What fictional game character would you like to hang out with?
  10. What deceased video game character would you bring back to life?
  11. What abandoned video game series would you like to see come back?

You can substitute these questions for anime or TV if you would prefer!

Sunshine Blogger Award from The Gaming Diaries

sunshine blogger award

The Gaming Diaries nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I am very excited to receive this award and I am grateful that The Gaming Diaries thought of me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! A project I really enjoyed from The Gaming Diaries recently was reading her post on the Question of the Month!

The rules for the Sunshine Blogger Award are:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions they ask you
  • Nominate 11 blogs and write them 11 question
  • List the rules and display the logo in your post and/or on your blog

1. What is the game you are most looking forward to being released this year? (Any already released in 2019 don’t count)

I would say Kingdom Hearts 3, but that was just released. In that case, I think the second game I am most looking forward to playing is Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn for the Nintendo 3DS. This is a remake of a game I have never played, but it looks adorable and I am looking forward to playing it!

2. If you could cosplay as any character from any game who would you choose?

I would cosplay as Kassandra from Assassin Creed Odyssey. I was really thinking about this question because there are a lot of characters that would be fun to cosplay, but Kassandra wins because I really love her character and would love to dress up as her!
3. What film, TV series or book would you like to see as a video game? (If any)

Sucker Punch is a film that would probably be really cool in a video game format! There are action sequences that would really well in a video game and the gripping story would work well in a video game!

4. What game would you like to play for the first time again? A complete fresh start with no memories of playing it before.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The story was so amazing and I looked forward to playing it every day once I was done doing homework in college! The plot was engaging and the side quests were really fun!
5. What was the first game you played this year?

Assassin Creed Odyssey was the first game I played this year because I really love the story of the game and love exploring Greece! I just started playing again since I finished Kingdom Hearts 3!
6. If you could visit any in game world, where would you choose?

I would love to visit Skyrim from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim! The world is so beautiful and I would love to meet the different people in Skyrim and try a sweet roll!
7. Physical or digital copies of games?

I prefer physical just because I love the box art on the physical copy of games!
8. What do you wish non-gamers could understand about gaming?

That video games are actually very positive and are not just mindless entertainment. They can have positive effects on mental health like they help my anxiety. I also wish people knew that they tell really fantastic and emotional stories!
9. How do you think you have changed as a blogger?

I have only been blogging for a few months, but I feel like I am doing much better at communicating with other bloggers! I also feel that I am understanding how to write better as a blogger instead of writing like I am writing an essay.
10. Do you have any goals for your blog this year? If so, what are they?

Honestly my goals for blogging are always just to have fun and to make other people smile when they read my blog! I just like putting my thoughts out there and knowing that people enjoying reading what I write!
11. What advice would you give people about blogging?

I would say my advice is just focus on enjoying what you write and what you want to write about instead of focusing too much on statistics! I would also recommend finding other bloggers to follow through social media so you can communicate with other bloggers!

Real Neat Blog Award Nomination

really-neat-blog award

I was nominated by the Real Neat Blog Award by Fitzy Game Time! I am so happy that this is my first Real Neat Blog Award and second blog award nomination! I am also happy that my blog is considered “neat” because I really do want to use my blog to talk about video games and why they are so special to me and other gamers! Thank you to Fitzy Game Time and you can check out a post I like of Fitzy’s here!

Fitzy noted the rules of the blog and I will do the same here! The rules are:

  1. Show the logo
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog
  3. Answer the questions
  4. Nominate 7-10 bloggers
  5. Ask them 7 questions

The scenario and questions I have are:

Scenario: You wake up to find yourself strapped to a cold metal table. You glance around and notice a lot of fancy technology but a bunch of stuff that bears a striking resemblance to video game consoles.  You see a bunch of moving things in the corner of your eye. They turn to look at you as you quickly look away from them. You spy a window and quickly realise that you are flying through space. Then it dawns on you, you’re aboard an alien spaceship.

1. From the darkness you hear the things conversing with each other. It sounds eerily similar to a made up language you’ve heard in a video game. What games language do they sound like?

The language that this being is speaking is Hylian from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD on the Wii U. I love the way the language sounds and I also love the writing system of the language!

2. One of the moving things starts shuffling towards you, as it gets closer you start to make out its shape. You can’t believe it but it’s a being that you know from video games. What is it, from which series and why does that particular being terrify you?

A terrifying being would be a xenomorph from Alien: Isolation on the PC. I played that game and every time I played it that terrifying alien would appear in my dreams! I do not like that it cannot be killed and that it is super fast and quiet and can appear anywhere!

3. The being realises that it has startled you. It clicks a button and begins talking to you in English. It explains that a translator has been activated and that it can still sense your duress. It says it wishes to play a song for you, a song of your choosing from video games to help calm you down. Which video game song do you pick?

I pick “Somnus” from Final Fantasy XV on the PlayStation 4. That song has soothed me since I first picked up the game. My friend also learned it on the piano and plays it for me when I am anxious.

4. After you calmed down, the being clicks a button and you are released from the table. The being explains that it has been watching Earth for a long time and their race has a fascination with Earth’s video games. They wish to join Earth in its gaming culture and the being explains that they love local competitive video games. The being requests that the two of you play a friendly match together. It requests that you pick any game that has existed on any gaming system (PC included) but that the game must include alien races, as the beings find the exclusion to be upsetting to them. It doesn’t need to their species but something beyond Earth. The being suggests that if you win the game, it will show you around the ship. Realising that this may be your best chance to escape, what game do you pick that you feel confident in winning?

I do not play many competitive games so this one will be tricky. But, I do have one that does include an alien and I would be good at as long as it is on easy. I would pick Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch. The alien races in this games are Goombas and the Toads and Bowser looks alien enough! Super Mario Party would give me an advantage when it comes to the minigames because I know some of the minigames so I should be able to beat them in the minigames! I would also have an advantage of playing the game beforehand so I would know how to win the game.

5. After you win the match, the being praises you to all its fellow crew. They rejoice and hail you as Earth’s champion. The alien then requests you follow it around the ship. As you walk through the long corridors, you come across a wall of familiar weapons. On the wall is dozens upon dozens of weapons from video games. But, the weapons are half and half. The being explains that something went wrong and all the weapons were split in half and then merged with a random weapon. They all worked though and the beings liked the results so they kept them. Amongst the weapons you spot a weapon ideal for your current situation. You lunge for the weapon and proceed to go through with the act of escaping. What weapon fusion have you chosen and why? (For the sake of the following questions, it can’t be a weapon that would get you off the ship.)

The weapon is a fusion of the Monado from Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for the Nintendo 3DS and Bayonetta’s Scarborough Fair guns from Bayonetta for the Nintendo Switch. The Monado is a sword that can cut through robots so it would be powerful against the xenomorphs. Bayonetta’s Scarborough Fair weapons would be able to hurt the xenomorphs from a distance and they are magical so they should definitely be able to protect me from the xenomorphs!

6. After your altercation with the being, you make a dash in the opposite direction from where you woke. As you run you hear a blaring noise and realise that the alarm has been sounded. You enter a new room and before you you see an escape pod. You go to enter the shuttle but quickly realise that you best prepare yourself first. At the back of the room and spy a row of containers, each with a spacesuit. The beings have created fully functioning spacesuits from video games. Each one with the abilities of their video game counterparts and fully stocked with oxygen. How convenient, you think! Which spacesuit do you take and why?

The spacesuit I choose would look like Bayonetta’s. I love the costume design from the first Bayonetta for the Nintendo Switch. It looks comfortable and like it would be fun to wear! I also find it funny to imagine someone creating a spacesuit that has heels!

7. After suiting up, you enter the pod. Before you is a mouse, keyboard and a display screen. The screen prompts you to press the Esc button to launch the shuttle. So you do just that. The escape pod breaks away from the ship and hurtles through space. The screen prompts you to type in your destination. EARTH you type. ‘Insufficient fuel’ the screen unfortunately tells you. The display then prompts a list of choices for you in the vicinity. It details a bunch of prototype worlds that the beings had set up. Each world has been created to resemble a video game world and has Earth’s atmosphere implemented on it. On the list you spy a place that you recognise from your games and you decide that that *Blank* Planet  is ideal for you. What planet is it and why?

Oh this is a tough one! There are so many video game world I would love to visit! I think I’ll go with Skyrim from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch. This is my choice because the world is so vast I have yet to explore all of it! I am still playing through the game mainly focusing on side quests. I would choose this world because I would love to build a house there and try Sweet Rolls and explore the world and make friends with the various people of Skyrim. Plus, I would love to see a dragon! Although from a distance, not destroying whatever town I am living it! I find Skyrim to be so peaceful and sometimes like to play it when I am stressed because it calms me to be in a different world. I could easily imagine myself settling down in a house I build with a family and working in one of the villages!

Questions and Nominations

Pick your favorite video game character that you think can take down this boss!
