Childhood Favorites: The Simpsons: Hit and Run

I had The Simpsons: Hit and Run on PC when I was a kid. The funny story is that I actually took it from my brother once he finished the game. My brother is a couple years older than me so he was around the age to be playing a Teen rated game but I was 9!

This means that I learned how to say “Get off the road, Jackass!” before I could actually drive from playing this game! Luckily, I never repeated it until I was old enough to drive and understand that sometimes people just can’t drive!

This is a game I mostly remember fondly except for some difficult missions! It was fun, the dialogue was funny although did go over my head because I was 9 and this was more targeted for people who were fans of The Simpsons TV show which I was too young for!

Plot

Somethings weird is going on in Springfield surrounding a new drink called Buzz Cola. There are bee security cameras and strange trucks and it’s up to the Simpsons to figure out what is going on in their town!

Driving

There are different cars to drive in the game that are unlocked through missions, buying them with in-game currency, or finding secret cars in the different stages of the game!

Each car has different skills such as speed and handling. Cars can be repaired with wrenches throughout the stages or if they are destroyed they can be repaired by paying a fine.

There are cops in the game that are triggered by demolishing property or hitting people. There is a meter that builds up and if the meter goes red the cops will come after you! I remember the cops being hard to get away from in the game because they would drive fast and destroy your car and you would have to pay them a fine!

I also remember getting into trouble a lot because if you demolished property you would get coins! I was a ruthless child!

Levels

There are seven levels in the game and each level consists of different missions. The first level is the introduction to the game where you play as Homer hearing about Buzz Cola on TV. The second level is where you play as Bart in a different area of Springfield causing general mayhem. The third level involves Lisa in another area of Springfield trying to find Bart who has gone missing.

The fourth level takes place in the introduction area of the game where Bart has been found and Marge wants to know why her son appears to be brainwashed. The fifth level features Apu who is back to the second area in the game investigating Buzz Cola. The sixth level features Bart who is now normal investigating the area where Lisa was because he wants the world to know what’s going on with Buzz Cola. The final level is back to the first area in the game with Homer dealing with a town that is now been turned into a Halloween town on Halloween and is taking down Buzz Cola to save Springfield!

Favorite Moments

  • Interactions with characters like when Marge tells Homer he ate Lisa’s science project
  • Homer’s dialogue when you mess up driving: “Ow my ass!” “Get off the road, jackass!”
  • All of the music in the game
  • “S-M-R-T” mission where you had to race the principal to school
  • Racing mini games

Least Favorite Moments

  • “Monkey See Monkey D’oh” where you have to find all the monkeys before the timer runs out and it’s very difficult to do
  • Final mission which is a timed mission where you have to collect nuclear waste and drive to a spaceship

Fun Racing and Exploration Game

I loved this game as a kid and I mostly have fond memories of it despite some difficult missions! The game was funny and I enjoyed driving and causing mayhem in Springfield! I also enjoyed exploring the levels to collect coins and cards in the game! I remember replaying the game a few times and it’s one of my favorite games I played even though I was too young for it at the time!

Have you played The Simpsons: Hit and Run? What did you think of the game? What were some of your favorite childhood game?
