Thoughts on Edelgard’s route

Full spoilers for route!

Edelgard’s character interested me which is why I chose The Black Eagles route in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. was a strong leader of her house and getting closer with her revealed things she kept hidden from the others. She was kind, but also had been through a lot when she was younger.

Edelgard’s route is basically where you side against Rhea and the Church of Seiros. You join up with Edelgard as the Flame Emperor to fight against Rhea to end her rule so Fodlan can be more equal instead of a class system based on nobility and Crests.

I got this route by getting Edelgard’s Support up to a C+ and talking to her on 2/8.

Why did I pick this route?

Getting closer to Edelgard and The Black Eagle’s story both influenced me to pick this route.

Talking with Edelgard, I found that she had been experimented on along with her other siblings. The experiment was to see if someone could have two Crests. All of her siblings died except her. She got The Crest of Flames from the experiments. That’s when I thought she might be The Flame Emperor and it turned out I was right.

Rhea was not seen is a positive light in this story. I did not spend time with her so that did not help things. Jeralt appeared to be suspicious of get so I became suspicious. Then, it seemed like she thought whoever went against the Church should be killed. After I found out she did something to Byleth during her birth, I really didn’t trust her.

The Black Eagles also shows the bad side nobility and the class system, blaming Rhea and The Church for causing the class differences. Bernadette has been abused, Dorothea was a Commoner who was treated like dirt until she started singing. Petra was forced to attend the Monastery and her father was killed by Caspar’s father.

All Edelgard wants is for Rhea and the church to no longer rule Fodlan so the emphasis on nobility and Crests can be changed to equality for everyone. She blames Rhea and The Church for everything that happened to her family.

What happens in this route?

It starts when Byleth goes to the throne after becoming one with the goddess. Edelgard interrupts to steal the Crests and you can choose to spare her even though Rhea wants her dead. Sparing her enrages Rhea and you see her true form as The Immaculate One. After that you fight to take down Rhea, but you die in the process.

5 years later, you come back to life and help Edelgard. First comes taking down The Alliance. You fight Claude and then can spare or kill him. Sparing him results in him leaving and The Yellow Deer join you.

Next, you must fight The Blue Lions. You cannot save Dimitri. He has become ruthless in his attempt to kill Edelgard and protect Rhea.

Finally, you take down Rhea. She wants to be called Seiros, her true name, and she changes to her dragon form. Rhea is enraged and grieving. She has lost her mother, the goddess, because Byleth left. She hates Byleth and Edelgard and wants them dead. Her anger leads to her setting her safe house, The Blue Lions castle, aflame which puts all citizens in danger.

Thoughts on the route

My thoughts changed throughout.

First, I felt regret pretty quickly. At first, I wanted to help Edelgard build a new land that would be equal. But, I had to hurt old allies.

I really liked Claude so I felt bad attacking him, but I was glad I could spare him. That made me feel better that he would help me.

Then, Rhea had a cutscene. In it, she was mourning her lost mother because I had deserted her. I felt really bad for her because she was visibly distraught. That was the first time the route had painted her sympathetically, but it was already too late.

Next, The Black Eagles. Mercedes was so sweet to me and Dimitri was always kind. But, I had no choice. That and I couldn’t save Dimitri. I felt so bad that I had to attack them because of the route I chose.

Getting up to the fight with Rhea was worse. I had to go through Manuela and Flayn. Flayn was my student. I again had no choice due to the route I had chosen, but I was crying.

Having to fight Cyril at the final fight was also terrible since he was really nice as well. I was also sad that Rhea had to die too. She did have a choice to surrender, but she was enraged and wanting to fight back.

But, the ending did make it worth it. Edelgard was able to bring peace to Fodlan. She dismantled the class system and the reliance in Crests for power. Her rule was truly more equal according to the ending.

Class and Power in Edelgard’s Route

At the start of the game, characters have classes of Noble or Commoner. Nobles have power. They look over government, have their future planned for them.

Commoners are the lower class. Dorothea has been mistreated by nobles. She talks about bring talked down to or getting nasty stares because she was living on the street. The nobles only paid attention to her when she became famous for her voice.

The Church of Seiros also wields considerable power. They lead Fodlan and everyone must obey them. They also emphasize Crests which are another form of power. Those who wield Crests are generally nobles and they use these Crests in battle to gain the upper hand.

Students start to learn about the problems with having a class system when they interact with students from different classes.

Dorothea and Ferdinand are an example of that. Dorothea states that she does not like Ferdinand. She calls him a bee. He tries to figure out why but it also really kind to her. He bakes her treats and listens to her. Finally, at the end of their Support, she tells him why. She was just starting to sing and she was bathing in a public fountain and caught a young Ferdinand who saw her, glared at her, and then ran off. Ferdinand states that he was actually marveled by her beauty but became scared. Ferdinand never really saw her as being different due to his higher class while she knew they were different because she had been mistreated as a Commoner.

Also being in a higher class system isn’t always seen as positive. Bernadette was abused by her dad. She panics and is afraid of people because she became friends with a Commoner and her dad had him beaten almost to death. That’s why she hides from people. She’s afraid of them getting hurt. She also was originally just going to be married off, but then she was dragged to the Monastery.

Edelgard destroys the concept of nobility and Crests so that no one can have power over someone else. She tries to make everyone’s power equal so they cannot use it against others. Hopefully in her rule, people can be equal and Commoners , Nobles, and Crests can no longer be used as a class divide.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Update and Alternative Route

I just got back into Fire Emblem: Three Houses last weekend after my friends playing it made me miss the game. It turns out that I was actually getting close to a major reveal so I am glad I decided to finish the game! I just started the alternative route before starting this post so I can also discuss it on this post!

Student Update

All of my students are now extremely helpful in battle since they have Master classes. Edelgard is a Warrior so she can solely use her axe in battle. Hubert is a Warlock whose focus is using dark magic in battle to defeat enemies. Ferdinand is a Wyvern Rider who uses an axe on a wyvern so he can fly and take out enemies. This also makes him incredibly strong. Lindhardt is a Bishop so he can use some offensive magic, but he mostly focuses on healing. Caspar is a Grappler who uses his fists in battle and can do multiple damage to an enemy. Bernadetta is a Sniper. She does not like fighting so it works that she just hits people far away with her bow. Dorothea is my Dancer which gives her really good offensive magic like Meteor, but also allows her to heal allies. Petra is an Assassin which allows her to use both her sword and bow in battle. She is my strongest fighter because she deals a lot of damage with her sword. Finally, my character, Azura, is the Enlightened One. I fused with the goddess so I now can heal, use magic damage, and use my sword in battle.

Story

All of the big reveals started happening while I was playing so spoiler warning! First, I found out that the gentle librarian was actually Solon who wants to use dark magic. He can turn students into beasts and also massacres your home village.

Then, another betrayal happens. The sweet red-head student you don’t teach in the Black Eagles named Monica is actually this evil woman, who kinda resembles a mad clown, called Kronya. Considering that Monica was kidnapped by the Death Knight, it is possible that Monica actually died and Kronya is merely pretending to be her. Kronya kills Jeralt and then attempts to kill you as well.

This is when another reveal happens, although I saw this one coming. Solon uses his powers to send you to a dark realm which reminded me of Kingdom Heart 3‘s World of Darkness except there are no landscapes here. That’s when it is revealed that the green lady in your head is actually a goddess. You fuse with her to escape and gain a new class!

You then sit on the throne because Rhea wants you to and  find out that Edelgard is the Flame Emperor and she tries to stop Rhea. This goes into why I chose the alternative path.

I just don’t trust Rhea. She executes anyone who resists her. I found out that when my character was born, her mother died and the baby was abnormal and had no heartbeat. Rhea admits that she put the goddess inside of me. I’m guessing that means that the baby and the mother were supposed to die during childbirth so Rhea saved the baby by infusing her with the goddess. She probably really only did that because she wanted the goddess back on earth.

Alternative Route

It started around the beginning of month 2 when I approached Edelgard and she asked me to accompany her. She traveled to see her father so she could officially become Emperor. She uses her power to get rid of the Prime Minister who tortured her so she could get two crests.

She then uses this power to summon an army. She reveals herself as the Flame Emperor during the battle in the Goddess Tower. After defeating her, I had a choice to save her. When I did that, I really made Rhea angry. So angry in fact, that she turned into a giant Dragon called The Immaculate One. So turns out the demure goddess was actually a terrifying dragon. This means that she was hiding her true nature. So I am grateful I was able to choose this route.

After fleeing the scene, I am now at a hideaway with Edelgard. I was locked out of all school activities since I was no longer working there, but I can still interact with the students. Since Edelgard lives, she is planning an attack on Rhea and asking all kingdoms to join her. She is detailing all Rhea has done so the people will turn on her. I started the battle and defeated Rhea. I got to the time skip and I am now back at the school with the students.

Coming Towards the Finale

I am really looking forward to see the alternative route! I hope to defeat Rhea as I do not want her leading Fodlan. I am glad I went with the alternative route first and I plan to do the normal route afterwards. I just wanted to side with Edelgard because I trust her more than Rhea! I also spend so much time with Dorothea that a romance option came up so I’ll have to see what happens after the war is over!

Have you chosen the alternative route for The Black Eagles? Do you trust Edelgard or Rhea more?

Fire Emblem Update!

I am slowly making progress through Fire Emblem: Three Houses! I am really enjoying the story and teaching!

Story

I have stopped someone who was building up an army against the monastery. There is a plot to murder the high priestess Rhea and we are to guard her.

Teaching

Some of my students have reached level 5 and have done certification exams.

Others have asked me to change their goals and I have accepted all changes so far. Linhardt wants to be a Bishop, Hubert wants to focus on ranged spells, and Petra wants to do up close combat and also use use bows.

I have done another group task with Fernidand and Petra to begin to learn how to fly and it has been going well! I am not sure where I want Fernidand to ride or fly which is why I have been switching him between the two group tasks.

Bonding

Characters have started to form bonds which have unlocked Support conversations. I have increased my bonds with Bernadette and Dorthea through combat. Others have increased their bonds through combat, outside activities, or group tasks.

I am hoping to have my character get a C rank with all the characters before Chapter 1 is done, but I am specifically focusing on getting Edelgard to a C rank since she is the house leader. It has proven to be difficult even though I have been putting her in combat near me and have also done activities with her. Hopefully by the end of Chapter 1 I will eventually have a C rank with Edelgard!

Next Fire Emblem Game

I have decided that my next Fire Emblem game will be Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. It started with me finding a random GIF of a Fire Emblem character and showing it to my friend. I found out this was Camilla from the  Fire Emblem: Fates series.

It was at first really confusing because Fates consists of three games. I did not know which one to start with. Because I took an interest in Camilla, I decided to go with Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. My friend has played this game so he offered to help me with strategy if I got stuck.

I am interested in the story of this game because it has something to do with your main character trying to choose between two kingdoms. I chose the kingdom where you were born. It is also apparently the harder game, but I play on easy so it should not be too bad!

How are you all doing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses? What do you think of the game so far?

My First Fire Emblem Game; Fire Emblem: Three Houses

I decided to try Fire Emblem: Three Houses mainly due to a friend’s recommendation. My close friend is a huge fan of the Fire Emblem games. When I saw this game, I was intrigued by the story and the three houses concept. I liked the idea of being a teacher; it reminded me of Hogwarts and I am a huge Harry Potter fan! Here are my thoughts on the game!

Story So Far

The three houses come together to teach their students different styles of combat. You are offered a teaching position there after you aid the three leaders of the houses in combat and save Edelgard. I am currently on the first month where my mission will be to fight bandits.

Character Customization

I was surprised that there is some minor character customization! I knew about choosing the gender of my character, but I was also able to pick my character’s name. I decided that Azura would be a great name for my character and it reminds of the daedric princess in Skyrim!

I was also able to pick my birthday! I could have chosen my actual birthday but I liked the idea of the Pegasus moon because I love Pegasus so I chose February!  I enjoyed that I was able to add some personal touch to my character!

Houses

There are three houses to choose from. I went with The Black Eagles. They are known for their history as being the oldest empire. They are also magic users which I loved and I also loved their leader, Edelgard!

The second house I liked was The Blue Lions. They appear to be mainly knights and they fight more close combat. Their leader is Prince Dimitri Blaiddyd.

The last house called The Golden Deer was the youngest and does not have many nobles. This house stuck out the most to me when I saw the trailers. I liked that they followed their own rules. Claude was interesting when I met him since he was more informal than the other house leaders. They specialize in ranged combat which is why I chose not to go with their house. I thought magic could give me up close and ranged combat.

Teachers

I have met three teachers so far. Manuela is interesting so far. She seems to love the spotlight. I also like that she has a flexible career. She is a teacher, a doctor, and a singer (or songstress as they are referred to in this game). I am interested in learning more about her as a character!

Hanneman knows about crests! He seems very knowledgeable and I would love to learn more from him! I hope he can teach more about crests throughout the game! I am also interested in why my crest is unique.

Jeritza is responsible for combat training. He is aloof for now. He does not appear to like conversation. I hope that I can learn more about him throughout the game. For now, he does not really want to talk to me!

Black Eagle Students

Some of these students I know more than others, but I hope to learn more about each of them soon!

Edelgard

Edelgard is the leader and also a student. She is next in line to rule the Adrestian Empire. She seems like she is trying to fit in as a student despite her prestige.

Hubert

Hubert is loyal to Edelgard. He wants to protect her. He appears to also be aloof, but not as bad as Jeritza. I am hoping that he will connect with the other students as well because connection is important for teamwork.

Dorothea

Dorothea is also a songstress. I have not spent too much time with her. What’s most interesting about her is that she is the only commoner in this house. She is known for her singing and she appears to be really sweet! She is a magic user so I hope to increase her magic and hopefully she can learn healing magic.

Ferdinand

I have not spent much time with them. He is a noble and acts like one with his manners. I do believe I gave him a team riding class and he did good. I think I may give him more riding lessons. Maybe he might be a good knight considering he reminds me of Prince Dimitiri of the Blue Lions. He is good with a lance so that would also make him a good knight.

Bernadetta

I have taken a liking to her and really want to help her! She is very shy so she reminds me of me as a kid. I did put her out into combat during the battle against the houses to help build confidence. I’m hoping that she will gain confidence through my teachings!

Caspar

Funny enough I keep thinking his name is Casper because the blue hair reminds me of Casper the ghost! He is way over confident! I am hoping he will mature throughout the game. Right now, every time he sees me, he wants to fight me because he think he can beat me! We’ll see about that. I did put him in one battle and he needs to work on his axe so I am hoping to make him a better fighter.

Petra

I love her violet hair! She has a really cool character design! She is the talk of the game so far due to her eye tattoo. She is really good with a sword as I also had her fight against the three houses. I love that she already does a double attack! She has a slight language barrier where she does mess up phrases, but she is really trying to learn the language! I hope to see her improve in up close combat with more powerful attacks!

Linhardt

I’m not sure what to say about him yet. He comes across as lazy and seems to prefer naps. I’m hoping that I can encourage him to be more studious and help him grow as a character! He also does really well with offensive magic so I hope I can teach him more offensive spells.

Combat

This was originally my least favorite part going into the game. I was not really sure I would like the style of combat with the movement squares and the top down perspective. However, I found that I really enjoy it!

I like that there are different types of terrain which helps me in combat. When you move to a square, you can see if the enemy can attack you. You can also view the whole map to plan out what you are going to do.

I like that there is a forecast on how my attacks will go so I can plan out my attack. I am really enjoying the strategy of the game. I also like the durability aspect so I am discouraged from constantly using combat arts. Combat arts do more damage, but take down the durability of a weapon.

Teaching

I also saw a little bit of the teaching. I was able to do one lesson so I experimented. Your teacher level determines how many students you can teach at a time.  You can plan out which skills you want to improve. The group teaching allows two students to bond and also figure out a skill like horseback riding. I had Ferdinand and Edelgard do horseback riding. They did good, but it would have gotten better if they knew each other more. But, by the end of the week they did have a perfect score!

Students can also take tests to change classes and you can also do seminars for your character to raise skills!

Activities

Fishing

Fishing was a mini game that was simple and fun. You can get fish for food for the dining hall. I was able to do it once as a tutorial

Gardening

You can grow and cultivate plants for further recipes. I like that there is a relaxing section with gardening, but I do wish you could see your garden.

Dining

You can choose you to dine with your students. This allows you to bond with students and increase their motivation. I like that you can see the delicious food and can spend time with your students.

Singing

Another way to bond with students. Two students can sing together. I chose Dorothea because she loves to sing and it would improve her Faith magic.

What do I think of Fire Emblem now?

I really love this game so far and can see why it is such a beloved series! I cannot wait to see more of the game and maybe I will try other Fire Emblem games after this one! Overall, I am really impressed with the game and I enjoy how much strategy is involved with the game!

Ghost Master: A Perfect Game to Play on Halloween

Ghost Master was one of my favorite childhood games. My brother was the one that got the game but I ended up playing it more than he did, even though I was a bit young for the game! I found Ghost Master again on Steam and this version even includes a bonus level that I never played before! So what is Ghost Master? It’s in the title, you are the “ghost master” and you control ghosts to scare mortals.

Gameplay

I would describe this game as a unique puzzle and strategy game. Each level in the game has an objective which can be as simple as make everyone flee or challenging like a level called “The Calamityville Horror” (this game is full of puns) where you need to lead people to find the dead bones in the house they bought to free the ghost’s souls. This level really makes you terrified of previous home owners!

Before you begin a level, you must assemble a team before haunting the house. The game gives you a recommended team. The team consists of ghosts that are different fetters like some can go outside and some can go electrical systems. The ghosts each have different powers like tremble can be used both for fear and for puzzles. The team is useful for fulfilling the goal of the level as well as unlocking the other ghosts in the game.

The levels also require strategy. You start out with a certain amount of plasma. This plasma is used to both summon ghosts to a house and lets them use powers. Each power costs plasma and the greater the power, the more plasma it costs. If you go over the plasma, an alarm will trigger letting you know you’re in trouble. If you ignore the alarm or do not act quickly enough, it’s game over. So how do you raise plasma? All you have to do is scare people.

Now I will tell you about some of my favorite levels!

Poultrygeist

I love this level just because of the puns. Your goal is to free the “poultrygeist” who is attached to a little girl. The poultrygeist is there because the mortal’s house was built on an “ancient chicken burial ground”. Yep, you read that right! The goal of this is fun because it is simply a game where you have to scare everyone away from the house to set the poultrygeist free. But, there is one problem. The mortals will summon a medium to stop you so you have to be careful that she does not capture your ghosts and you have to scare her away as well.

Facepacks and Broomsticks

This is a continuation of an earlier level. In the tutorial level, you scare away girls at a sorority. Well, they have come up with a plan. They bring witches to the sorority and these witches have placed a circle to protect the sorority girls. First, you have to disable their circle by binding ghosts to the objects they placed in the circle. Next, you have to scare the witches and the sorority girls. Just like the medium, the witches have the power to banish your ghosts. So, you have to scare them while making sure they do not capture your ghosts.

Deadfellas

This is a fun one! So when you scare mortals, you affect three parts of their personality. There is the terror aspect which is how scared they are. There is the madness aspect which is how much you have driven them insane. Finally, there is the belief aspect which is how much they believe in ghosts. For this level, all you have to do is make one man believe in ghosts. But, it’s the game also encourages you to scare everyone else. It is also unique that this level takes place on a boat which is a bit more cramped than the other areas, but it is still fun. I found it fun that the entire level was based around getting one guy to believe in ghosts!

Next, the levels that are not so fun.

Class of Spook’em High

This is the bonus level. It is the toughest level in the game, but that’s because the game sometimes relies on luck which is a problem due to its age. The story is the home your ghosts have lived in has been taken over by the ghost breakers, or a parody of ghost busters. They have placed a bomb in the house so the level is timed (the only level that is timed) and they have put up astral wards so you cannot enter the home. The problem is you have to entice a ghost breaker to let you in the ward with the bomb using a gift that has a ghost attached to it. But, anyone can pick up a gift because who doesn’t want a free present?! Plus, the mortals do what they want so they will not always enter the room you need to go into.

What Lies Over the Cuckoo’s Next

Same issue here! The story here is that you want to free a powerful ghost called The Darkling. But, he is surrounded by astral wards build by a mad doctor that kinda resembles Albert Einstein. To get into the ward, you need the one doctor that enters his ward to pick up a present with a ghost attached to it. But, everyone wants the present and only one person can have it. This person also does not like to leave the ward so it can take forever for him to get the present. It is rewarding to finally take down the wards and scare everyone, but it takes patience.

Spooky Hollow

This is challenging in a different way. The story here is that a farm has been haunted by The Dragoon (headless horseman). The Dragoon is being summoned by one mortal and to stop him, you must lead the other mortals to this person and have them witness the ceremony that summons Dragoon. If you do this, you get Dragoon in your party and complete the level! The problem is leading the other morals to the man and that The Dragoon easily terrifies them and can make them flee if he shows up too many times.

Final Thoughts

This is one of my favorite games from my childhood and I still enjoy it today! It is fun and can be a good stress reliever since it makes you laugh! I think it should be a fun game to play on Halloween because instead of being chased by ghosts, you control them! I recommend you give this game a chance. Due to its age, it is currently only $5 on Steam!

Have you played Ghost Master? What is your favorite game to play on Halloween?
