My Plan for 2020 Month of Halloween

I love Halloween and enjoy dressing up and watching horror films! This year I have new games to play and films to watch! I am dressing up as Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 3. I was her last year and due to COVID I did not want to get a new costume. I am hoping to possible be Harley Quinn next year.

I enjoy playing Ghost Master every Halloween. It’s a game on Steam where you control ghosts and solve puzzles which usually involves scaring people or freeing ghosts. It’s a game from my childhood that I was glad Steam had so I could play it again!

This year Alice: Madness Returns is going to be played! I am working on finishing it and with it’s creepy atmosphere it is perfect for Halloween. This game is the sequel to American Mcgee’s Alice where Alice must go back to Wonderland to figure out who started the fire that killed her parents.

Finally, a pleasant surprise. I woke up last weekend to find out that Silent Hill 4 was on GOG! I am super excited as I’ve always wanted to play a Silent Hill game! So far it is definitely creepy with the weird locked apartment you’re in and the tunnel that leads to the subway. The protagonist is also surprisingly nonchalant about everything. He is really calm for someone that has been padlocked in his apartment.

This year I met a new friend that has given me a long list of Halloween films to watch including some horror anime and Tim Burton films.

I am currently watching BeetleJuice and Let the Right One In. I saw Let Me In years ago and it was my favorite horror film and Let The Right One In is the original Swedish version of the film. It’s basically about a young boy who falls in love with is vampire neighbor.

I also want to watch the original Prom Night as I have only seen the remake and the remake is one of my favorite films! I love prom so I love that their is a film that is basically prom and horror. I also want to watch a horror anime and maybe an Asian horror film as Amazon Prime and my smart TV both have them.

What are your plan for this Halloween?

What I Have Been Doing For This Month’s Halloween!

I love Halloween so I’m dedicating this post to what I have been doing this October and what I will be doing on Halloween!

Films and Shows I’ve Watched

Hocus Pocus

This movie is considered a 90’s classic and somehow I missed it growing up. So I decided to watch it on Freeform! I enjoyed the three witches the most. I think my favorite witch was Winifred! I loved how she led her sisters and some of her quotes made me laugh such as “I AM CALM!”. I thought it was an enjoyable film!

The Witch Files

This is an interesting film I found on Netflix. It’s about a bunch of women who gain powers by joining a coven and it is a found footage film. I enjoyed the plot and thought it was a great film if you love witches!

Scream Queens

This is a horror comedy show from Fox and I am watching it on Hulu. There are two seasons and I am still on the first one. I saw the first two episodes on TV when it first aired, but lost track of the show because of being busy with college classes. I am now hoping to finish it because I love the characters and I am enjoying the story.

Party Monster

This album was made by The Haxans which has Ash Costello from New Years Day as the lead singer. I was interested in this album because I love her voice. This is the perfect album for Halloween because it is a horror themed album. My favorite song on this album is “Dirty Magic”!

I am not planning to play any horror games. I am just enjoying the ones I have been playing!

Dragon Quest XI S

When I last played, I had just gotten Sylvando in the party. I am excited to see more of the story! I think my favorite character is Sylvando now just because he’s a really sweet character. He just wants to make everyone happy!

Borderlands 3

I am on Promethea. I am still early in the game, but so far I am really liking the story. The event that led me to travel to Promethea (I will not spoil it) led me to really want to defeat the Calypso twins!

I went to Spirit when it opened to pick out a costume early! I am going as Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 2. I love that the costume has a hood if it rains. I also love that they also had a keyblade so now I have my own keyblade!

What have you been doing for the month of Halloween? Are you going to dress up as a character?

Stop Motion Films: The Nightmare Before Christmas

I watched this on ABC Family before it became Freeform a few years ago and I loved the film and bought the Blu Ray for it! It is my second favorite stop motion film after Corpse Bride.

Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King, is tired of doing the same job every year. He accidentally stumbles upon Christmas Town and after that he wants to take over Christmas for a year!

The setting is a mix of horror and Christmas. Halloween Town is dark and has creepy characters like Oogie Boogie Man. Christmas Town has bright colors with adorable characters such as elves with rosy cheeks.

Favorite Character

Sally. I love how creative she is and how she refuses to be locked in a tower with Doctor Finklestein. She is in love with Jack and genuinely tries to help him stop making foolish decisions.

I also love the music in this film! My favorite song is “This is Halloween” because it is a fun introduction to the film. I also love the singing and the orchestral tracks.

Favorite Parts

  •  Intro
  • Seeing Christmas Town for the first time
  • “Poor Jack”
  • “Oogie Boogie’s Song”

“I Am Jack, The Pumpkin King!”

I love this film! I love how the characters are designed and how much detail was put into the settings in the film. I love watching this film on Halloween, but I also think it is appropriate for Christmas!

What do you think of this film? Do you watch this film on Halloween or Christmas, or both days?

Stop Motion Films: Corpse Bride

Corpse Bride was the first film that really got me interested in stop motion films! I first watched it around middle school so I would have been around 12. I have only seen a couple of films and one show that uses stop motion, but I wanted to discuss these films and show. Corpse Bride is still my favorite stop motion film!

This film started my love of stop motion because I was impressed by the aesthetic of the film and the Special Features section revealed the hard work that went into creating characters, scenes, and shots. It could take hours to do one scene.

Victor has an arranged marriage with Victoria who he ends up falling in love with. But, Victor is nervous and starts to make several mistakes during his wedding vows. He goes out into the forest to learn his vows, does them perfectly, and puts the ring on a branch which turns out to be Emily’s corpse. Emily is the corpse bride who takes him to the land of the dead and now he must escape the Land of the Dead to be with Victoria.

There are two main settings in the story: The Land of the Living and The Land of the Dead.

Land of the Living

The color schemes in this setting have a purposefully dull look to them with an emphasis on grey almost like a black and white film. This shows how the Land of the Living is dull and lifeless. The people are focused on behaving in a strict Victorian fashion and are not really living at all.

Land of the Dead

This world is colorful and vibrant with colors such as blue and green. This shows the the Land of the Dead is full of lively characters. Everyone is free to be themselves and have a fun time now that they are free from society’s rules.

The character design in this film is interesting because it changes depending on setting. The Land of the Living has characters with a simple color scheme of greys and blacks. The Land of the Dead has colorful characters who all have blue skin so it is easy to tell that they are dead or they are skeletons.

My favorite design is Emily’s wedding dress. I love the floral design, the long veil, and the delicate lace. She is also my favorite character. She is so sweet and caring. I related to her when I was a child because I felt misunderstood like her at the time.

I love the music in this film! I quickly memorized all of the lyrics since I watched it so many times when I was younger.

My favorite piano piece is “Victor’s Piano Solo” because I love how beautiful it is. It reminds me a bit of “Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven. My favorite song in Corpse Bride is “Remains of the Day.” It tells Emily’s story with a big jazz number. I love the singing and the jazz instruments in this song!

Favorite Parts

  • “Victor’s Piano Solo” scene
  • “Remains of the Day’ scene
  • Scene where Victor sees his dog again
  • Emily dancing in the moonlight scene
  • Wedding Prep Scene in Land of the Dead
  • Wedding Scene
  • Finale

Why it Started My Love of Stop Motion

I was enthralled by the beauty of the scenes especially the scene where Emily dances in the moonlight and the finale. The lightning and design in this scenes impressed me. I was also impressed by the time and care that goes into making a stop motion film. Overall I think Corpse Bride is a beautiful film with an emotional story that still holds well today!

What is your favorite stop motion film? What did you think of Corpse Bride?

Underrated Ladies!

A Geeky Gal included me in a list of women bloggers which you can read here! I highly encourage you to check out the bloggers she included so you can follow some more awesome bloggers!

  • PingBack to Kate at Melting Pots and Other Calamities and pingback to a post of hers!
  • Answer the questions
  • Choose female characters from books, movies, TV, anime, webtoons, etc.
  • Tag as many people
  • Have fun!

Name a heroine you like but whom you feel is always overshadowed by the male characters in the story

Cindy from Final Fantasy XV. She is so cool and I love how intelligent she was with cars! I wanted to know more about her as a character, but most of the time is centered on Prompto, Noctis, Ignis, and Gladiolus.

For that matter, name a heroine whom you feel is always overshadowed by the other female characters in the story

Sweet Pea from the film, Sucker Punch. The attention is mainly put on Babydoll, but Sweet Pea was level headed and tried to keep all of the girls safe. She was also caring and looked after all of the girls especially her sister, Rocket.

Name a character who had potential but was greatly underutilized in her story

Lunafreya from Final Fantasy XV. She barely got any screen time and I wanted to see more of what she could do.  She was also powerful because she was able to heal others, summon the Leviathan, and she also gives Noctis the power to fight the Leviathan! I would have loved to play as her or see what else she could do with her magic!

Name a female character who you either find better in her book than her movie, find better in her movie than her book, or whose portrayals you find equal

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. I found both portrayals of her to be perfect! She was the first character I could relate to as a child since we both loved reading. I admired her courage in the books and films and loved how Emma Watson portrayed her character!

Name a character who you want more backstory on

Harley Quinn from Batman: Arkham City. I wanted to know more about her as a character because she seems so interesting! The story focuses on the Joker so she is mainly just shown with him. She seems intelligent and funny and I would like to know more about her.

Name a character with traits you feel are sadly overlooked by everyone

Senua from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Senua is so strong. She’s brave for trying to save her significant other. She is also a really strong and capable fighter when you have to fight against her demons. She is also brave for being herself and fighting her illness despite having no support from her community except for her husband.

Name a morally grey character. (Villain or anti hero!)

Poison Ivy from Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Basically she loves plants so much that she wants to take care of them. She also despises people because they are hurting the environment. I love how caring she is for her plants and that she is an intelligent scientist. She’s also a fun character because she is confident and a powerful enemy when she uses her plants.

A character you’re stunned isn’t more famous

Babydoll from the film, Sucker Punch. This film really needs more attention! I love the story of Babydoll trying to escape from an asylum she was put in by her abusive father. Babydoll is cunning and all she wants is freedom after being stuck in abuse. I highly recommend you watch this film if you have not already because it is a really interesting film that makes you really think about what you have watched after you finish it.

A character from a piece of fiction you’re amazed isn’t more famous

Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena. I just started reading the manga before I start the anime. I am putting her on this list because Utena is a really interesting character. She wears suits because she does not like dresses and I am currently at the part where she is fiercely defending another student from an organization. I’ve barely begun the story, but I am interested in learning more about Utena and I wanted everyone who reads my blog to know about her too!
