Super Mario 3D All Stars

Super Mario 3D All Stars on the Switch allowed me to play Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy for the first time! I pre-ordered the game as soon as I heard about it and finally got to play it this weekend. I wanted to play Super Mario 64 so I could experience Mario’s first 3D game. I’ve seen little bits of it like the biting piano. Super Mario Sunshine looked so much fun with it’s beach setting, I thought it would be really relaxing to play! I love the moon and stars so the idea of visiting galaxies had me really excited for Super Mario Galaxy.

Presentation

The game begins with a cute opening cinematic of Mario catching stars from all three games before transitioning to the main menu. On the main menu a random track will play from the games and the name of the track and the game it comes from is shown in the top right corner. The three games each have a little information blurb on when they were created and a bit of history. After the three games, the three soundtracks are listed with information on the game soundtracks such as Super Mario Galaxy being the first game that included an orchestra. When playing the games you can press the – button to close the game, view the controls, view special moves which is super helpful, or activate 2 player mode in Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario 64

Peach tells Mario she baked him a cake so he should visit the castle, but when he arrives Bowser has taken over. Because this game introduced a 3D camera, the camera becomes a cameraman turtle called Lakitu. I played through the third course. I first explored the outside land and the interior of the castle as best as I could since most of it is locked.

It was really fun seeing the old graphics. I loved Lakitu on the cloud and Mario looks so cute with his little blocky body. I loved exploring the first level. It was fun running around the mountain to climb up until the top. The first boss was King Bob-omb who I had to throw three times. I got a little overzealous and threw him off the cliff which I was not supposed to do and he scolded me for it. I also had my first race with Koopa the Quick which was a bit tricky because I had to run up the mountain with bombs rolling down it and lava pits I had to jump. I was able to beat him in two tries. I also loved learning how the canons worked and launching Mario to collect all the red coins and getting another star. My other favorite thing about the beginning courses is how you’re taught mechanics like the red coins in that level taught me about more complicated platforming because I had to jump on an odd shaped moving block and then jump on several islands to get the rest of the red coins.

The one thing I was not the biggest fan on was the resolution. I would have liked the game to have widescreen so It could fit my TV, but it didn’t hamper me enjoying the game. I still really enjoy playing it! The camera controls also take getting used to but that was my problems across all three games. For this one, you can’t do a full 3D circle. You have to move the camera in increments and it tends to want to center behind Mario. It does take getting used to and may cause problems in harder stages.

Super Mario Sunshine

I definitely find this game to be very relaxing although it can be a little stressful when things get tricky. So Mario wants to go on an island vacation but there’s an ink Mario wreaking havoc and Mario is getting blamed for his messes and must clean up the island.

Exploring the hub world is really fun. I love the harbor! I love how pretty the water looks and the residents are adorable! The voice acting is hilarious especially when the toads talk! They have the oddest voices like very pitchy but also scratchy at the same time.

F.L.U.D.D. is a fun mechanic to switch things up. It takes a bit of time to get used to, but I am enjoying the water mechanics! I also love that the machine has a little personality like Cappy.

I explored Bianco Hills. I collected the stars up to finding all the red coins which was a lot of platforming, but I’m glad that it threw that in there because I can learn about how platforming works in the game. I also had a challenge where I had to collect a star without F.L.U.D.D. which involved getting used to platforming without F.L.U.D.D.’s help.

The first boss was Petey Piranha. I had to climb up to the top of a windmill which broke and then I fell inside the windmill and had to fill Petey up with water and then jump on his stomach three times. So far all the enemies have been really adorable with little flowers monsters and octopuses! The most annoying one is this little whirlwind that keeps respawning and knocks me off platforms if I don’t stun him with water.

Camera wise this also has a flaw. The full 3D camera and close up are very nice, but the camera can get “stuck” like when I was doing a puzzle where I had to shoot water at an X to pop out a coin from another X on the other side of the wall. The camera kept getting stuck because I had to zoom in to shoot the X and when it showed the cinematic where the coin was it would put the camera far away from Mario on the other side of the wall and it would take a bit of work to bring it back. Luckily it appear that pressing close up Mario camera mode resets the camera when it gets too far away.

The blue coins are interesting as it appears like they unlock things like stars. When I brought 10 coins to a shop at the harbor, I got a star! Red coins in a level do not transfer outside the level and are only for getting another star.

Super Mario Galaxy

Peach asks Mario to meet her for the Star festival. When he arrives Bowser kidnaps her and her castle. Mario gets thrown into space and lands on an island where little stars called Luma help him find Rosalina’s ship which needs powered up with Stars to catch Bowser.

I love the little mini islands I travel to on each level. The little Luma are so cute! I love that there’s ones I have to feed Star Bits too. Collecting star bits was fun using a controller! It took a little bit of time to get used to, but as long as I press R to center, I can easily collect Star bits. I’m loving how creative the little worlds are. Each galaxy level is composed of several planets which Mario must travel to by pressing Y or shaking the controller. You can also use the pointer and press A on little blue stars to drag Mario over the blue stars.

The first boss was also a little baby Piranha plant. It would chase me and I would have to run behind it and spin attack it’s tail so it would hit the Piranha on the head. My favorite was the last star on the first level where I had to go into this clear island and navigate the inside of the island which had arrows that would change the direction of the gravity.

The camera here was also a bit limited. You can only move it so far. But, there’s a first person mode that makes up for the camera limitations. The camera does try to be as responsive as possible following Mario around as quickly as it can so it doesn’t feel like Mario is running away from the camera. I’d say out of the three game I think this has the most responsive camera.

Final Thoughts

I think this game is perfect for a target audience like me who has never played these games! If you’re someone that has played them, you aren’t really getting anything new here besides them being in HD. It was also disappointing that the first game was not put into widescreen and the cameras have quirks for each game. But, I still love playing this game and do think they are very fun! I would say if you’re new or really want to play these games again or on the go, then it’s definitely worth it!

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition: First Impressions

I beat Xenoblade Chronicles on my 3DS recently and was really excited to get the Definitive Edition on the Switch so I could play the game the Future Connected story and also having the option to replay the game on a bigger screen with easier controls, an enhanced soundtrack that I could hear from my TV as opposed to the little speakers on my 3DS, and improvements to make the game easier to navigate and play.

Improvements to the Main Story

The quests are now much easier to navigate. You will see exclamation points on the map and when you choose a specific side quest, the exclamation points will turn blue and a helpful path will show you where to go. No more looking everywhere and googling to find a specific item or monster!

Meeting people and interacting with them is important in Xenoblade as bonds are important to this story. It’s much easier to find characters as they appear with green dots on the map. Also the auto run feature is so helpful because the maps in these game can be massive so having the game run for you makes navigation much easier!

The cosmetic option is fun because I can put outfits together instead of having odd mismatched gear. The game comes with some already available like swimsuits for everyone or alternate colors for the uniforms they wear when they first appear in the game.

Graphics wise the game is so beautiful now! It’s a major change from someone who was playing on the lowest graphics on the 3DS and still found the game spectacular. The monsters look more realistic, characters have more details. My favorite change so far has to be Reyn. Yes, he did lose his cartoonish look, but I do love his new character model!

The soundtrack is amazing! I love the orchestra and the electric guitar sounds awesome! I love what they did to the soundtrack! I stopped to listen to the opening song when the game loads up and it was just so beautiful!

I do love that there is a Casual mode as it’s so far making the game easier on me! But, if you want a challenge there is an Expert mode. I always play on easy so I’m not about to try that, but it does appear that you can easily make this game tougher if you want to.

Future Connected

Melia and Shulk travel to Alcamoth because Melia wants to restore her home. Alcamoth attacks them and they crash land on the Bionis shoulder. They meet High Entia survivors who tell them that they had to set up the defense system of Alcamoth because a fog monster has been attacking anyone who enters.

The battle system is similar so far. Luckily, I still remember Melia’s strong Topple combo so I have been doing well in fights! There is a Nopon battle attack that unlocks when you fill the talent gauge where they will aid you in battle, but I still need to advance more in the story so I can unlock it. I got sidetracked collecting the Nopon.

The Nopon Ponspectors are my favorite part so far! You aid them in quests and then they join your party. They follow you around in a little Nopon train. It’s so cute! That’s why I haven’t advanced much in the plot. Anytime I see the Nopon Ponspector icon, I find them and do their quests so they will follow me. I have 6 out of 12. You also help the High Entia with quests as well.

A Great Game For New Players and Old Ones Too

I think the upgrades will make this much easier for someone looking to try these games! I could have had a much easier time with this game if I played it on the Switch, but I have not seen the boss battles I got stuck on yet so it may still be challenging there. On the other hand it will be easier to grind and level up now that quests are easier to track!

As for Future Connected, I am really enjoying! The Bionis shoulder is really cool with it’s cliffs and hills. I am interested to see how the story will develop once I stop collecting all the Nopon and play the story more. I really want to know what happened after the game ended! For new players, please play the main game before starting this as it spoils major plots that ruin the first time playing through the game.

Saints Row: The Third – A Unique Game For The Switch

photo of statue of liberty

I decided to try the Saints Row series after Saints Row: The Third was released for the Switch! I really enjoyed this game and I would highly recommend it for anyone who has a Switch!

Performance

I wanted to address this because this was an issue at launch. When I first played the game after it was released, it did need to be put at a high sensitivity to make it easier to play and it was easier to play it in docked mode. I also did have an issue with weird textures like fog staying on the screen.

After the recent updates, the game runs perfectly! There are no sensitivity issues and now there’s an auto lock on to make the game even easier. There are no weird issues or bugs that I had. The next time I pick this up it might even have gyro controls because they did want to add that.

Basically, if you were worried about the performance on this game, it is definitely fixed and running perfectly now!

Plot

There are a few twists but the basic plot is to go after the Syndicate and the gangs involved in Syndicate to clear The Saints name as well as avenge Johnny Gat’s death. Other enemies do appear throughout the game with my favorite and toughest being STAG. I also liked that the game did have branching options depending on how you treated certain characters or which reward you picked.

Activities

Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV have similar activities such as Mayhem where you cause mayhem in Steelport. The biggest change was escort missions in Saints Row: The Third. The most entertaining escort missions were escorting Genki because he liked you to cause mayhem when you drove and escorting a tiger because the tiger would mess with your vehicle and would calm down when you power-slid the vehicle.

Completing these activities as well as doing missions, owning property, and taking out gangs would unlock a city take over which would cause the city to belong to the Saints again. I only managed to do one city as the others I still needed to drive around and finish all their side content.

Fun Moments

  • Defeating Matt Miller in cyberspace because the game kept changing from a first person game to a text adventure and sometimes the controls would switch or I would shrink. I just loved how chaotic that level was!
  • Meeting Zimos who only talks with an auto-tune mic
  • “Holding Out For A Hero” playing during the final mission
  • The Gangstas in Space DLC where I had to deal with an over dramatic director
  • The Trouble With Clones which allowed me to unlock Super Gat

“Holding Out For A Hero” Finale

I loved that this song played and it made the finale perfect! This finale is unique because you get two different paths. You can choose to either take down the main villain or save your friends. I chose to save my friends which made The Saints popular and heroes again! I loved that my version involved me climbing Steelport’s version of The Statue of Liberty; It was really fun scaling the statue!

I also did still take down the main villain, but it was in a movie called Gangstas in Space. This was a story mission at the end of the game with dramatic lines and over acting. The main villain was in a super suit in space so I had to throw lava crystals at him to lower his health.  The game ended showing the film reel wrapping up the final scene and then the credits began!

Final Thoughts

I loved the credits for this because it had pictures of the staff and they did sing a song together. My favorite picture was the ones where one of the staff members was wearing a a hot dog suit! Overall, I found the game to be really fun although the activities can be challenging. But, I found the rewards to be worth the challenge. The main story was fun and I had a good time playing through it! The DLC was fun especially the ones involving Genki. I loved this game and I am so glad I decided to try it on the Switch!

Thoughts on Edelgard’s route

Full spoilers for route!

Edelgard’s character interested me which is why I chose The Black Eagles route in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. was a strong leader of her house and getting closer with her revealed things she kept hidden from the others. She was kind, but also had been through a lot when she was younger.

Edelgard’s route is basically where you side against Rhea and the Church of Seiros. You join up with Edelgard as the Flame Emperor to fight against Rhea to end her rule so Fodlan can be more equal instead of a class system based on nobility and Crests.

I got this route by getting Edelgard’s Support up to a C+ and talking to her on 2/8.

Why did I pick this route?

Getting closer to Edelgard and The Black Eagle’s story both influenced me to pick this route.

Talking with Edelgard, I found that she had been experimented on along with her other siblings. The experiment was to see if someone could have two Crests. All of her siblings died except her. She got The Crest of Flames from the experiments. That’s when I thought she might be The Flame Emperor and it turned out I was right.

Rhea was not seen is a positive light in this story. I did not spend time with her so that did not help things. Jeralt appeared to be suspicious of get so I became suspicious. Then, it seemed like she thought whoever went against the Church should be killed. After I found out she did something to Byleth during her birth, I really didn’t trust her.

The Black Eagles also shows the bad side nobility and the class system, blaming Rhea and The Church for causing the class differences. Bernadette has been abused, Dorothea was a Commoner who was treated like dirt until she started singing. Petra was forced to attend the Monastery and her father was killed by Caspar’s father.

All Edelgard wants is for Rhea and the church to no longer rule Fodlan so the emphasis on nobility and Crests can be changed to equality for everyone. She blames Rhea and The Church for everything that happened to her family.

What happens in this route?

It starts when Byleth goes to the throne after becoming one with the goddess. Edelgard interrupts to steal the Crests and you can choose to spare her even though Rhea wants her dead. Sparing her enrages Rhea and you see her true form as The Immaculate One. After that you fight to take down Rhea, but you die in the process.

5 years later, you come back to life and help Edelgard. First comes taking down The Alliance. You fight Claude and then can spare or kill him. Sparing him results in him leaving and The Yellow Deer join you.

Next, you must fight The Blue Lions. You cannot save Dimitri. He has become ruthless in his attempt to kill Edelgard and protect Rhea.

Finally, you take down Rhea. She wants to be called Seiros, her true name, and she changes to her dragon form. Rhea is enraged and grieving. She has lost her mother, the goddess, because Byleth left. She hates Byleth and Edelgard and wants them dead. Her anger leads to her setting her safe house, The Blue Lions castle, aflame which puts all citizens in danger.

Thoughts on the route

My thoughts changed throughout.

First, I felt regret pretty quickly. At first, I wanted to help Edelgard build a new land that would be equal. But, I had to hurt old allies.

I really liked Claude so I felt bad attacking him, but I was glad I could spare him. That made me feel better that he would help me.

Then, Rhea had a cutscene. In it, she was mourning her lost mother because I had deserted her. I felt really bad for her because she was visibly distraught. That was the first time the route had painted her sympathetically, but it was already too late.

Next, The Black Eagles. Mercedes was so sweet to me and Dimitri was always kind. But, I had no choice. That and I couldn’t save Dimitri. I felt so bad that I had to attack them because of the route I chose.

Getting up to the fight with Rhea was worse. I had to go through Manuela and Flayn. Flayn was my student. I again had no choice due to the route I had chosen, but I was crying.

Having to fight Cyril at the final fight was also terrible since he was really nice as well. I was also sad that Rhea had to die too. She did have a choice to surrender, but she was enraged and wanting to fight back.

But, the ending did make it worth it. Edelgard was able to bring peace to Fodlan. She dismantled the class system and the reliance in Crests for power. Her rule was truly more equal according to the ending.

Class and Power in Edelgard’s Route

At the start of the game, characters have classes of Noble or Commoner. Nobles have power. They look over government, have their future planned for them.

Commoners are the lower class. Dorothea has been mistreated by nobles. She talks about bring talked down to or getting nasty stares because she was living on the street. The nobles only paid attention to her when she became famous for her voice.

The Church of Seiros also wields considerable power. They lead Fodlan and everyone must obey them. They also emphasize Crests which are another form of power. Those who wield Crests are generally nobles and they use these Crests in battle to gain the upper hand.

Students start to learn about the problems with having a class system when they interact with students from different classes.

Dorothea and Ferdinand are an example of that. Dorothea states that she does not like Ferdinand. She calls him a bee. He tries to figure out why but it also really kind to her. He bakes her treats and listens to her. Finally, at the end of their Support, she tells him why. She was just starting to sing and she was bathing in a public fountain and caught a young Ferdinand who saw her, glared at her, and then ran off. Ferdinand states that he was actually marveled by her beauty but became scared. Ferdinand never really saw her as being different due to his higher class while she knew they were different because she had been mistreated as a Commoner.

Also being in a higher class system isn’t always seen as positive. Bernadette was abused by her dad. She panics and is afraid of people because she became friends with a Commoner and her dad had him beaten almost to death. That’s why she hides from people. She’s afraid of them getting hurt. She also was originally just going to be married off, but then she was dragged to the Monastery.

Edelgard destroys the concept of nobility and Crests so that no one can have power over someone else. She tries to make everyone’s power equal so they cannot use it against others. Hopefully in her rule, people can be equal and Commoners , Nobles, and Crests can no longer be used as a class divide.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses Update and Alternative Route

Photo by Immortal shots on Pexels.com

I just got back into Fire Emblem: Three Houses last weekend after my friends playing it made me miss the game. It turns out that I was actually getting close to a major reveal so I am glad I decided to finish the game! I just started the alternative route before starting this post so I can also discuss it on this post!

Student Update

All of my students are now extremely helpful in battle since they have Master classes. Edelgard is a Warrior so she can solely use her axe in battle. Hubert is a Warlock whose focus is using dark magic in battle to defeat enemies. Ferdinand is a Wyvern Rider who uses an axe on a wyvern so he can fly and take out enemies. This also makes him incredibly strong. Lindhardt is a Bishop so he can use some offensive magic, but he mostly focuses on healing. Caspar is a Grappler who uses his fists in battle and can do multiple damage to an enemy. Bernadetta is a Sniper. She does not like fighting so it works that she just hits people far away with her bow. Dorothea is my Dancer which gives her really good offensive magic like Meteor, but also allows her to heal allies. Petra is an Assassin which allows her to use both her sword and bow in battle. She is my strongest fighter because she deals a lot of damage with her sword. Finally, my character, Azura, is the Enlightened One. I fused with the goddess so I now can heal, use magic damage, and use my sword in battle.

Story

All of the big reveals started happening while I was playing so spoiler warning! First, I found out that the gentle librarian was actually Solon who wants to use dark magic. He can turn students into beasts and also massacres your home village.

Then, another betrayal happens. The sweet red-head student you don’t teach in the Black Eagles named Monica is actually this evil woman, who kinda resembles a mad clown, called Kronya. Considering that Monica was kidnapped by the Death Knight, it is possible that Monica actually died and Kronya is merely pretending to be her. Kronya kills Jeralt and then attempts to kill you as well.

This is when another reveal happens, although I saw this one coming. Solon uses his powers to send you to a dark realm which reminded me of Kingdom Heart 3‘s World of Darkness except there are no landscapes here. That’s when it is revealed that the green lady in your head is actually a goddess. You fuse with her to escape and gain a new class!

You then sit on the throne because Rhea wants you to and  find out that Edelgard is the Flame Emperor and she tries to stop Rhea. This goes into why I chose the alternative path.

I just don’t trust Rhea. She executes anyone who resists her. I found out that when my character was born, her mother died and the baby was abnormal and had no heartbeat. Rhea admits that she put the goddess inside of me. I’m guessing that means that the baby and the mother were supposed to die during childbirth so Rhea saved the baby by infusing her with the goddess. She probably really only did that because she wanted the goddess back on earth.

Alternative Route

It started around the beginning of month 2 when I approached Edelgard and she asked me to accompany her. She traveled to see her father so she could officially become Emperor. She uses her power to get rid of the Prime Minister who tortured her so she could get two crests.

She then uses this power to summon an army. She reveals herself as the Flame Emperor during the battle in the Goddess Tower. After defeating her, I had a choice to save her. When I did that, I really made Rhea angry. So angry in fact, that she turned into a giant Dragon called The Immaculate One. So turns out the demure goddess was actually a terrifying dragon. This means that she was hiding her true nature. So I am grateful I was able to choose this route.

After fleeing the scene, I am now at a hideaway with Edelgard. I was locked out of all school activities since I was no longer working there, but I can still interact with the students. Since Edelgard lives, she is planning an attack on Rhea and asking all kingdoms to join her. She is detailing all Rhea has done so the people will turn on her. I started the battle and defeated Rhea. I got to the time skip and I am now back at the school with the students.

Coming Towards the Finale

I am really looking forward to see the alternative route! I hope to defeat Rhea as I do not want her leading Fodlan. I am glad I went with the alternative route first and I plan to do the normal route afterwards. I just wanted to side with Edelgard because I trust her more than Rhea! I also spend so much time with Dorothea that a romance option came up so I’ll have to see what happens after the war is over!

Have you chosen the alternative route for The Black Eagles? Do you trust Edelgard or Rhea more?

Bayonetta and Embracing Femininity

photo of woman in red off shoulder top

Bayonetta is one of my favorite characters of all time! She is my favorite character because I like how she is an extremely powerful witch who is also very feminine. I like that she takes on enemies wearing high heels and pokes fun at her enemies. She reminds me that being feminine is a strength.

Bayonetta as a Character

Bayonetta is an Umbran witch. In the first game she is trying to uncover her past. In the second game, she is trying to save her friend, Jeanne, from the Gates of Hell. Bayonetta wears a skin-tight body suit with high heels that have guns attached to them. She is known not only for her signature outfit, but also for being a feminine and sexy character. She does dances when she summons monsters to help her. She makes jokes about “pillow talk” when fighting one of the bosses.

Her character has gotten some critique for how she dresses and acts sexually, such as from Feminist Frequency’s video “Lingerie is Not Armor”. In this video Anita Sarkeesian describes how Bayonetta’s sexuality is supposed to be seen as empowering, but the target audience is a straight male so it is not actually empowering and she is being sexualized.

I do not see Bayonetta’s empowering sexuality to be a bad thing. While I understand that her character is sexy, I do not really see her as being sexualized. It’s how she owns her femininity and her looks. Bayonetta as a character wants to be seen as sexy. She wants the camera to look at her when she moves around. She enjoys being the center of attention and showing off how confident she is in her moves and strength. Her sexuality is part of her character and cannot be separated from her. Her sexuality also gives her power because she uses it to take down her enemies. She is both feminine and strong.

An example of a character that is sexualized that Anita Sarkessian brings up is Quiet. I see her as being sexualized because she isn’t dressing sexy because she wants to. She does it because she breathes through her skin. This allows the developer to sexualize her character and pass it off through this odd logic. I also noticed in this scene that the player is free to use the camera to stare at her body because Quiet is locked in a cage.   Bayonetta’s character is sexy and confident, Quiet has been forced to dress a certain way due to story elements and she is being sexualized by the player.

My Journey with Femininity

I always liked dressing in feminine clothes, but there were some things I did not want to do at first. When I was younger, I did not like wearing makeup or wearing revealing clothes. I felt that those were aspects of femininity that girls were being forced to do. So, I decided to not do it.

But, as I have gotten older, I have grown to love more feminine things. Makeup is super fun to play with! I just love taking the time to match my eyeshadow with my outfit. Or maybe add a nice red lipstick to make me feel bold and confident! Makeup has become like art to me. I am wearing it for myself and to make myself feel great, not for anyone else. If I want to have orange and red eyes so I look like a Pheonix, then I will do so.

I also do not mind wearing more revealing clothes. It feels better when I am wearing it to make myself feel good and I feel comfortable. So what if the top is backless? It provides me comfort when it’s cold out, but I do not want to overheat with a full sweater.

So that’s what I have found when it comes to my femininity or femininity in general. It’s all about you! Whatever makes you happy and comfortable, do it! If you want to wear makeup one day and not the next, do it! It’s your body so wear whatever makes you happy and don’t take pressure from others on what you should or should not be doing!

What Bayonetta Can Teach Us About Femininity

She teaches us that it’s not a bad thing at all to be super feminine if you want to be. She also teaches us that femininity can be a strength since she can still kick ass in heels! There’s nothing wrong with being too little or super feminine. What matters is that you’re happy and you’re dressing and acting in ways that make you happy! I do not mind that Bayonetta is portrayed as sexy because that’s how she shows her confidence. I like that she knows who she is and she is confident in her abilities!

What do you think of Bayonetta as a character?

Healing with Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Dragon Quest XI S Demo

I had one wisdom tooth removed two weeks ago. The surgery was quick, but I was anxious after surgery due to my mouth being sore and have stitches in my mouth. I also had a delayed allergic reaction to amoxicillin which led to a full body rash and my lips swelling up! Luckily, I was able to see my doctor and get some medicine to heal my rash up and it’s finally gone! My wisdom tooth is also healed and I just have to rinse my mouth with salt water for one more week and I’ll be all set!

What got me through the panic of having a surgery and feeling sick was Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for the Wii U. The Dragon Quest 11 S demo helped me feel better about my rash because it was actually released the day my rash broke out and I had to see the doctor! That was a nice way to end a stressful day!

Tokyo Mirage Sessions

I decided to play this game to help me feel better because I wanted to play a game that was not too challenging and since the combat of this game mirrors the Persona games, I thought it would be easy to play when I was not feeling well.

It made me so happy! I loved doing the puzzles because I was in a dungeon with cameras that you could not face or else you would be transported back and lose progress. It also had a really cool boss named Gangrel. He could attack multiples times and summon enemies to guard him so he was a fun challenge. I loved his boss design because he attacks with his head! His collar will attack you and he does a good amount of damage! I also liked that he had a smirk during the battle which made him look over confident.

The best part was the concert performances! I actually had 2 concerts happen while I was playing which made me happy! I enjoyed the singing and the choreography and the costumes! It was like I was experiencing a live performance in my house! It just put a smile on my face and helped me relax and forget that I was still recovering from my wisdom tooth!

Dragon Quest XI S Demo

So this will be my first Dragon Quest and I am so excited to play the full game when it comes out! This game had me smiling as soon as I booted it up and it proceeded to blast the main theme through my TV! I was not expecting it to be loud so I had to quickly turn it down, but it just made me laugh!

I loved the opening village. I spent time exploring it and the game is so pretty! I also love the soundtrack especially the battle theme. I purposefully trigger battles just to hear the beginning of the battle theme play! I also love that the monsters walk around on screen and I love their character designs! I think my favorite so far is the Bunicorn since I love that it is a bunny with a horn; it is adorable!

I am interested in hearing more about the Luminary! I stopped playing the demo when I reached the town of Heliodor! The demo is really long, I was expecting it to stop once I  left Cobblestone! I am glad I decided to try the demo because now I know i will love the game!

Games as Healing

I love that video games can allow you to feel better when you are sick. Tokyo Mirage Sessions helped me forget I had surgery a few days ago and helped me feel normal again. It put a smile on my face watching the performances and fighting a boss!

The Dragon Quest XI S demo helped me feel less scared after I had a sudden bad reaction to the amoxicillin I was given for my wisdom tooth! I was scared because I did not know when the rash would lessen and I was not expecting to be allergic to an antibiotic. But, I again forgot I had a stressful day when I downloaded the demo and started playing. The game was just so bright and happy that I had to smile and laugh!

What games have helped you feel better when you were sick?

Fire Emblem Update!

I am slowly making progress through Fire Emblem: Three Houses! I am really enjoying the story and teaching!

Story

I have stopped someone who was building up an army against the monastery. There is a plot to murder the high priestess Rhea and we are to guard her.

Teaching

Some of my students have reached level 5 and have done certification exams.

Others have asked me to change their goals and I have accepted all changes so far. Linhardt wants to be a Bishop, Hubert wants to focus on ranged spells, and Petra wants to do up close combat and also use use bows.

I have done another group task with Fernidand and Petra to begin to learn how to fly and it has been going well! I am not sure where I want Fernidand to ride or fly which is why I have been switching him between the two group tasks.

Bonding

Characters have started to form bonds which have unlocked Support conversations. I have increased my bonds with Bernadette and Dorthea through combat. Others have increased their bonds through combat, outside activities, or group tasks.

I am hoping to have my character get a C rank with all the characters before Chapter 1 is done, but I am specifically focusing on getting Edelgard to a C rank since she is the house leader. It has proven to be difficult even though I have been putting her in combat near me and have also done activities with her. Hopefully by the end of Chapter 1 I will eventually have a C rank with Edelgard!

Next Fire Emblem Game

I have decided that my next Fire Emblem game will be Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. It started with me finding a random GIF of a Fire Emblem character and showing it to my friend. I found out this was Camilla from the  Fire Emblem: Fates series.

It was at first really confusing because Fates consists of three games. I did not know which one to start with. Because I took an interest in Camilla, I decided to go with Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. My friend has played this game so he offered to help me with strategy if I got stuck.

I am interested in the story of this game because it has something to do with your main character trying to choose between two kingdoms. I chose the kingdom where you were born. It is also apparently the harder game, but I play on easy so it should not be too bad!

How are you all doing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses? What do you think of the game so far?

Saints Row The Third and Saints Row IV: The Art of Crazy Fun

I bought Saints Row The Third: The Full Package on the Nintendo Switch and Saints Row IV: Game of the Century Edition on Steam last weekend! Both of these games are really fun and they make me laugh and have a good time! They’re both just good games that help you relax and feel good.

Both Saints Rows Games

Character Customization

These games have the best character customization I have ever seen! Basically they literally let you be whomever you want. I also love that you can play as non binary characters because your sex does not constrict what your character wears or looks like. I chose to play a female character who wears feminine clothes, but you do not have to do that if you do not want to!

You can also choose your compliment, taunt, and voice that allows you to interact with NPCs or other players if you do co-op. There’s a unique voice option where you can spend the game playing as a zombie. While it was funny to see how the zombie talked in the customization menu, I went with a female voice.

Car Customization

Once you own a car in the game, whether it be driving it to a garage in Saints Row The Third or just simply pressing a button in Saints Row IV, you can customize them to suit how you want the car to look! You can make them faster, add spoilers or decals, and change the color or how the car looks. They also have radios with really fun music ranging from rap to rock to classical music.

Combat

The combat is these games is really funny. The combat consists of different weapons like typical guns or melee weapons. But, it can also have really crazy ones like Saints Row The Third on the Nintendo Switch gave me a weapon that allows me to summon sharks called Shark-O-Matic! I also have the Dubstep Gun which fights enemies with dubstep in Saints Row IV!

Saints Row The Third

Story So Far

After gaining fame and riches, The Saints decided to steal money from a rich bank. Their plan fails when the bank is owned by a powerful group called The Syndicate. The Syndicate takes away all their money and fame and they must fight back against the Syndicate

Funny Moments

  • The opening where I had to fly down on a parachute to save Shaundi.
  • Finding out that the AI cannot drive in this game. They are always getting into accidents and causing havoc such as cars exploding.
  • Hearing the zombie voice for the first time. I could not stop laughing!
  • Signing fan autographs on the street.
  • Seeing that the police in this game tend to cause more havoc than good. There have been times where I have seen the police attack other NPCs in cars because of car accidents.

Saints Row IV

Story So Far

After saving the United States from a nuclear bomb, you are now the President of the United States! You are also terrible at your job. Aliens come to Earth and decided to take over Steelport. They have trapped you in a simulation world and you have to get out and fight aliens to save your country.

Funny Moments

  • Disabling a nuclear bomb to “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.
  • Being able to sign a bill called “Fuck Cancer”.
  • Nolan North is now the unique voice option instead of zombie.
  • The 50’s sitcom simulation where you walk around in an exaggerated happy walk.
  • Climbing my first huge tower in Steelport.

Simulation and Powers

This game is really enjoyable because Steelport is a simulation. Characters and cars will sometimes change to looking like they are simulated. The water is obviously fake and looks like it is simulated as well.

Because the world is fake, you can get super powers like running and jumping! This allows you to maneuver the world fast and finding data clusters allows you to unlock more powers.

Let’s Have Fun

Both of these games are really fun to play! They are filled with so much fun that I tend to spend time exploring the world and finding new cars or clothes. I have been distracted by how much fun I am having so I need to play through the story. But, if the side quests and the story that I have seen so far lets me know that Saints Row The Third: The Full Package  and Saints Row IV: Game of the Century Edition are going to be crazy, funny, and keep me entertained!

Have you played Saints Row The Third or Saints Row IV?

Just Dance 2019: Fun for Stress!

I got Just Dance 2019 on the Nintendo Switch after enjoying Just Dance 2018 on the Nintendo Switch! I found this game to be even more fun that the previous game because I really enjoyed the tracks and also was introduced to new songs such as “Mad Love”.

Favorite Tracks

“A Little Party Never Killed Nobody”

I love the music of the song and also love that you dance with a pretend cane in the song!

“Bang Bang Bang”

I love KPop and this is one of my favorite KPop songs so it was awesome being able to dance to the song!

“Mad Love”

I love that the dance is a duet with a ballroom style dance! I love the gestures and think they match well with the song!

“New Rules”

I love this song and find it to be fun to dance too!

“Rave in the Grave”

This is a fun Halloween song and I also love that the song involves moving around like a zombie!

“Sangria Wine”

This is one of my favorite songs before Just Dance and I enjoy being able to dance to it and do some of Camila Cabello’s moves in the dance!

“Work Work”

It is a fun song and I love the construction theme of the dance music video!

Fun and Relaxing Times For You or You and Friends!

This game helps with stress because it makes you get up and get moving which is good for my anxiety! Sometimes I can feel like I have this nervous energy trapped in my body when I get very anxious so it helps to let that nervous energy out!

I would also recommend playing this with friends as a friend game! I played Just Dance 2018 with a friend and enjoyed it!

Have you played Just Dance 2019? What did you think of the game? Also, what games do you play to help you with stress?
